Visions - Lapse

Visions is a new solo project of Frédéric Arbour, owner of the Canadian Cyclic Law label that specialises in music primarily of the dark ambient variety. Lapse features a series of constantly evolving drones, distant scraping and dense atmo-sound washes. It eschews rhythm, pulses and tones favouring an array of abstract sounds that emerge, shimmer and evaporate in a haze, leaving thick vapour trails. It's difficult to single out tracks but throughout Lapse a sense of constant motion is attained. There's rarely a moment to focus on a single sound due to the multi-droning that is employed. For a piece of music that appears minimalist there's really a lot going on. And while it doesn't throw up any real surprises or open up any new avenues of sound Visions's deep space explorations earns its place alongside Lustmord and Inade.
